Woman found dead on steps of church in Southwest Philadelphia, police say
An investigation is underway, police said, after a woman was found dead on the steps of a church in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday morning.
According to law enforcement officials, officers responded to the 7200 block of Grovers Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, at about 8:07 a.m. on Sunday to find a woman unresponsive on the steps of a church on that block.
St. Irenaeus church, a worship site for the catholic Divine Mercy Parish, is the church at that location.
The woman — who police did not immediately provide further identifying information on — was pronounced at the scene at about 8:17 a.m.
Police did not immediately determine a cause of death for the woman.
But, officials said, an investigation into this incident is underway and police are working with the medical examiner’s office to learn more.
