Synergy goes bankrupt, says time is up to redeem gift cards
If you have a Synergy Restaurant Gift Card in your wallet, you’re out of time to use it.
The San Diego-based company, which offers multi-restaurant gift cards for dozens of cities across the U.S., announced in a statement issued Thrusday that it plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and that it was winding down its operations.

The business originally said that gift cards it issued would be redeemable until Jan. 31:
However, on Friday, Synergy announced that, due to a tremendous surge in redemption rates, it was forced to discontinue redemptions effective immediately.

The popular gift card was available for purchase at Costco and was accepted at more than 100 local restaurants in San Diego County. Similar gift cards, each serving their own local restaurants, were also available in other California cities, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, Texas, Virginia and more.
NBC 7 reached out to Synergy for comment, but has not yet heard back.
