Woman saved after falling into icy Northampton Co. pond, police say
Police in Northampton County are being hailed as heroes after they saved a woman who fell in about 2 feet of water in an icy pond in Lehigh Township over the weekend.
According to police, the incident happened at about 2:36 p.m. on Sunday when officers responded to a 9-1-1 pendant that was activated in the area of the 3400 block of West Walker Drive in Lehigh Township.
Here, officials said, officers found a woman waving her arms in the air after having fallen into a pond.
With help from a neighbor, the officers were able to get the woman out of the pond and into her house. The woman then told police she fell into the water while cleaning a pond pump.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation where, police said, her body temperature was found to have dropped to 88° degrees upon evaluation.
