UTC Westfield cuts free parking to one hour

The once always-free parking at Westfield UTC is dwindling once again. The La Jolla shopping center cut its free parking down to one hour.

Free parking was reduced to two hours in 2019 after the mall implemented its new parking plan. As of Monday, free parking was reduced to one hour, Westfield said.

How much is it to park at Westfield UTC?

Parking now costs:

  • $2 for visits lasting 1-2 hours.
  • $4 for 2-3 hours.
  • $6 for 3-4 hours.

The daily maximum is $15 for visits longer than six hours. The lost ticket rate is also $15, and no refunds are available, according to the mall.

Westfield UTC said the changes are being made in order to improve parking availability.

“We are committed to enhancing our guest experience from arrival to departure. This update supports ongoing parking enhancements and improves parking availability throughout the day by making access more predictable, helping guests more easily enjoy our vibrant shopping, dining, and entertainment destinations,” Westfield representatives said in a statement.

Patrons of UTC’s AMC Theatres, 24-Hour Fitness, Seasons 52 and the UTC Ice Sports Center can validate their parking for additional hours, the mall said.

Valet parking is also available near Javier’s and Lucrezia for a flat rate of $20 per day.

Westfield said in 2019 that a new parking plan was implemented because hundreds of vehicles a day were parking in their lots while visiting elsewhere in the local neighborhood.

Prior to that change, Westfield UTC had offered free parking for 41 years since opening.
