‘Get away from my baby': Witnesses heard fight before man shot by girlfriend in Miami-Dade

A man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot by his girlfriend at an apartment complex in Biscayne Gardens early Wednesday, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The man was shot in his right arm at Centre Lake apartments, off of Interstate 95 and Northwest 7th Avenue, during what authorities called “a heated dispute.”

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The woman was taken into custody.

NBC6 spoke to two people who said they witnessed the argument.

One of the witnesses said he heard screaming and thought perhaps the neighbors had a function going on. But he could hear a baby crying.

“She was saying, ‘Get away from my baby, get away from my baby, get away from me,'” he said. “I don’t know what he threw, but he threw something and he was punching her [car] window.”

Another woman said the victim “kept like, coming close to her to where they were getting closer to our side of the street… Eventually he got mad and he started punching and like punching her car windows and everything.”

Several deputies could be seen at the scene, appearing to focus on one of the units. At one point, a child was escorted away with a deputy and taken into an unmarked SUV.

Officials haven’t released the identities of the man and woman or said what led to the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.
