Oakland celebrates Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu with downtown rally
The Town showed up and showed out for its latest hometown hero Alysa Liu with a rally Thursday outside Oakland City Hall.
Liu captured two gold medals at the recent Milan Cortina Olympics – one in the women’s singles figure skating event and the other in the mixed team figure skating event.
Mayor Barbara Lee during the rally presented Liu with a Key to the City. The figure skater showed off her Olympic gold medals and told the crowd “This is for ya’ll!”
The rally also served as a celebration of Oakland and featured local talent throughout from Sway Calloway serving as emcee to a performance to end the event from Grammy award winning singer Kehlani.
