Silent night — has Barrio Logan's iconic Los Cuatro Milpas served last customer?
Barrio Logan’s famous Los Cuatro Milpas, which first served its brand of delicious, authentic Mexican food nearly 100 years ago, may have seen its last satisfied customers as of Friday.
When NBC 7 went by during the morning, the business was closed; earlier in the week there were reports that Christmas Eve would see its final service.

For the first time in memory, there was no long line in front of the business on Logan Avenue, no hungry customers to feed. Instead, the door was locked, a CLOSED sign in the window. There was, however, no note saying the business was, in fact, permanently shuttered, leaving some ambiguity to that sad scene.
On Tuesday, word had gotten out, and a long line of customers wasn’t taking any chances.
“I came up from Portland last night, and this was our first stop,” Christina Lawrence told NBC 7. “Got in at 1 in the morning, and got here here at what, 8? this morning just to get our last taco, man.”
End of an era for Los Cuatro Milpas?
The property the restaurant sits on was sold last month, and there has been no announcement on whether the family that owns Los Cuaro Milpas would continue running the restaurant.
Customers said on Tuesday that there was a lot they would miss.
“I’m going to miss their beans and their flour tortillas,” Cesar Alcarez said. “The flour tortillas are just awesome — and the hot sauce! I mean, I asked for the recipe, and they couldn’t give it to me. Man, I’m telling you because the hot sauce really makes the food great.”
The restaurant has faced financial challenges in recent years, along with some minor health code violations.
Since there has been no official word on if the restaurant will return, loyal customers will just have to keep their eyes open and their fingers crossed.
