San Diego sports fans differ on how they prepare for Super Bowl Sunday
Chris Burnell knows sports.
He has been selling every one of them for almost 20 years. “We do hockey, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, snow sports, and water sports. You name it. We do it,” he said
Burnell is owner of Play It Again Sports in Mira Mesa. The place to find new and used, gently owned sports and fitness equipment. Hockey is his favorite sport.
“It’s one of the only games you fall down and want to do it again tomorrow,” he said. That’s similar to professional football which he likes, too. “The store will be open, but I’m taking the day off to go to a friend’s house to watch the game. I’m a (Buffalo) Bills fan, but they’re not going to win (Sunday),” he joked. “So, let’s go with the Patriots.”
“I’m pulling for the Seahawks. I’m not a fan of the Patriots. I don’t like dynasties. I think we need some fresh blood,” said Emerson Bello who was shopping for golf clubs on Saturday. He’s hosting a big Super Bowl party for friends and family. That shopping is done.
” (The menu includes) wings, burgers, and ribs. Then everybody else will come through with the missing pieces,” he said.
Austin Entzminger, 8, and his dad were trying to find just the right water bottle holder for his bike, Saturday, as they made their way through the sports store. He is not a fan of football, but loves baseball. “Yeah, because I like the batting and catching. It’s really cool,” Austin said.
The family’s plans for Super Bowl Sunday are open. “Maybe we’ll go to the zoo because it’ll be empty,” Kevin Entzminger said. “Or maybe we’ll just watch the commercials,” he and his son laughed.
