Inter Miami offers sneak peek of new stadium ahead of grand opening
Inter Miami is opening its doors on Saturday, but ahead of the weekend’s opener, the stadium gave 7News a sneak peek of its brand new home.
After years in the making, NU Stadium will be home to the MLS Cup Champions and is ready to welcome soccer fans.
7News captures all sides of the stadium from the pitch to the team store, which houses merch galore.
One of the cool things guests can do at the store is create a special Inter Miami edition POP! toy of themselves for about $62.
The customizable POP! will be delivered to the guest’s home in about seven to 10 business days.
Once guests are done with their new toy, they can check out the new soccer field to take their seats.
The stadium can house nearly 27,000 fans in its pink and gray seats.
Fans who toured the stadium and watched players practice said it was great.
“It’s awesome,” said young fan Carter Cabrera.
“What I’m most looking forward to is if Miami wins!” said season ticket holder Jonathan Armater.
As part of its media tour, co-founder and part-owner of the team, David Beckham, made an appearance and kicked a soccer ball around.
Inter Miami players also got a chance to warm up on the pitch ahead of the big game. 7News cameras captured big stars like Lionel Messi participating in passing drills.
Fans say they have their eyes on him and are excited to watch him play on Saturday.
“Oh, I’m a crazy fan! We go when he goes!” said fan Patricia Monaco.
For Brian King, a South Florida soccer superfan, he points out how many parts of the stadium honor Messi.
“In the Leo Messi stands here too. Don’t forget they named the stands here. So yeah, there’s his number 10 right there. So yeah, I mean that’s an out-of-body experience.”
King said he was raised in Miami and experienced amazing sports history.
“I grew up in Miami. I went to the Toros at the Orange Bowl with my parents, followed the Strikers, which was the net. Miami Fusion season ticket holders for every team. A year back, in December, when we won the cup, it was incredible. My son and I were there, goosebumps,” he said.
Now he’s hoping there will be more goosebump-making moments in Inter Miami’s new home.
“You know, the Moss brothers and David Beckham, they’ve done everything for Miami. They have to be commended. I mean, building this, everything, thinking globally, this is definitely a top-notch upgrade. This is where Miami belongs,” he said.
While the stadium is done, fans can still expect some construction over the coming years, which is creating other projects.
