Dozens of firefighters battle house fire in Chula Vista

One person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a home in Chula Vista on Monday afternoon, officials said.

Crews from the Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach and city of San Diego fire departments responded to the blaze on Woodlawn Avenue that was reported just before 2:30 p.m.

SkyRanger 7 was above the scene, showing more than a dozen firefighters and white smoke coming out of the roof of the house. A portion of the backyard, which appeared to have piles of personal belongings, was charred by 3 p.m.

The fire was knocked down in about 20-30 minutes and after it had extended into a second home, according to Chula Vista Fire Department spokesperson Chris Kastelic.

CVFD said firefighters rescued four people who were trapped in the backyard, one of whom was taken to the hospital. The department did not provide details about their condition.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Woodlawn Avenue was expected to be closed for a couple of hours as firefighters continue to mop up, officials said.
