Woman struck and killed in North Philly hit-and-run, officials say
A woman was found dead in the roadway in the Feltonville section of North Philadelphia on Sunday night and, police believe, she was the victim of a hit-and-run crash.
According to police, at about 11:41 p.m. on Monday, a passerby called police to tell them a woman’s body was discovered in the roadway at the intersection of C and Ruscomb streets in the Feltonville section of North Philadelphia.
In a morning update, police said that the incident happened when a gray sedan struck a 39-year-old woman as she entered the crosswalk at that location.
The woman, who officials identified as Sharmain Serrano, was found unresponsive and was pronounced at about 12:19 a.m. at a nearby hospital after being taken from the scene, police said.
Police said that there are several surveillance cameras in the area that they may be able to review.
At least four neighbors told NBC10’s Lili Zheng that they have witnessed cars speeding on C Street. One woman said she was hit by a car at the same corner in 2022, resulting in injuries.
“This is a bad corner. Many accidents. You’re coming one block off the boulevard,” she said. “My leg is made of metal. Thank you, surgeon at Temple Hospital. Best surgeon. I might not be walking right now.”
She said drivers need to slow down on that street.
“What’s the hurry? You’re going to reach your destination. It’s not worth somebody’s life. That was somebody’s life. Someone’s daughter. Someone’s sister,” she said, referring to the victim.
An investigation, officials said, is ongoing.
