Woman killed, minor injured after shooting in Gloucester County home on Saturday

A woman is dead and a minor is in the hospital after a man shot them both in a home in Paulsboro, New Jersey, on Saturday morning, police said.

The incident was first reported to police just before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at a home on Elizabeth Avenue in the Gloucester County community.

According to police, 40-year-old Ramon Luis Acevedo called 911 on himself and admitted to intentionally shooting the woman in the head in a bedroom and then shooting the minor by mistake after getting startled.

The minor was able to escape and is now receiving treatment for injuries with unknown severity at the hospital, police said.

An active crime scene remained outside the home for most of the day, but police appeared to be clearing the area just before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Acevedo will face first-degree murder and related charges, police said.

A motive and the identities of the woman killed and child shot have not yet been released.
