Woman arrested for throwing Gatorade in face of Miami Gardens middle school assistant principal, police say

A woman was arrested after police said she threw Gatorade in the face of an assistant principal at a middle school in Miami Gardens.

Diliana Quintana-Avila, 40, of Doral, was arrested Tuesday on charges of battery of a school employee, interference with an educational institution and resisting arrest without violence, an arrest report said.

According to the report, the assistant principal at Norland Middle School told police she was standing at her post during dismissal at around 3:55 p.m. when Quintana-Avila walked quickly towards her.

The assistant principal said she asked Quintana-Avila how she could her and told her parents aren’t allowed in the building after 3:20 p.m., the report said.

That’s when the assistant principal said Quintana made a comment in Spanish and threw Gatorade in her face, the report said.

Quintana-Avila became “belligerent” and entered the campus, the assistant principal said, before throwing Gatorade in her face a second time, the report said.

An officer arrived but wrote in the report that Quintana-Avila became “increasingly irate” and wouldn’t show her driver’s license.

Quintana-Avila was taken into custody and became “physically resistant” while the officer tried to walk her to the patrol car, the report said.

She was booked into jail and later appeared in bond court, telling the judge her daughter attends the school.

“I’m not ordering you to stay away from Norland Middle School, I’m asking you to act like an adult and listen when people tell you you can’t go into a school or have to show an identification,” Judge Mindy Glazer told her.

Glazer set Quintana-Avila’s bond at $2,800.
