Woman arrested after shooting her brother at Fort Lauderdale hotel: Police

A woman was arrested after she allegedly shot her brother at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday morning, police said.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel at 6550 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

When officers responded, they found the man had been shot in the upper body area, officials said.

He was taken as a trauma alert to Broward General Hospital. His name and exact condition weren’t released.

Police said the adult female shooter was contacted and detained. Video showed officers placing her in the back of a police car for questioning.

Police initially said it was a possible domestic violence case and later confirmed that the shooter was the victim’s sister.

The woman, identified as 26-year-old Keana Mason, was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, police said.

Hotel guests said they were shocked to learn of the shooting.

“There was a gentleman up at the entrance who said he called the police because he saw a man who stumbled into the pool area who had been shot in the shoulder,” said one guest named Rose. “I think it’s very scary.”
