Wintry mix moves out, warmer temperatures to arrive soon for the Philly region

First, Wintry Weather, Now a Big Warm Up Ahead

Everyone is talking about the warm up coming later this week, and it’s real. The NBC10 First Alert 10 Day Forecast shows temperatures climbing into the 60s this weekend and even into the low to mid 70s next week. But first, we had one more cold stretch, and it came with a wintry mix.

Light Wintry Mix Early Tuesday

Overnight temperatures had dipped just below freezing between 4 a.m. and 5 am Tuesday and brought a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain.

The winter weather advisory was in effect for the Philadelphia region until 9 a.m. and the Pennsylvania suburbs until 11 a.m.

This was not a major winter event, but there could be a few slick spots on untreated roads, driveways, and sidewalks.

Spring Preview on the Way

Temperatures for the rest of the week won’t be as cold, but we will have more rounds of wet weather. Showers on Wednesday afternoon with a high of 54°, rain continues into Thursday morning with a high of 53°, and clouds persist through the day.

Then we’re on track for a big warm up starting this weekend:

• 50s Wednesday through Friday
• Mid 60s Saturday
• Low 70s Sunday and into next week

The 70s are more than 20 degrees above normal for early March. Typically, it is mid-May before we routinely warm into the low 70s, so this is a legitimate spring preview.

After one more cold morning, spring-like weather takes control across the Delaware Valley.
