‘Who shot my son?': Family still seeking answers in killing of Miami activist
A South Florida family is pleading for help in solving a shooting more than two months ago that claimed the life of a Miami community activist and business owner.
Dwight Wells was shot and killed outside his restaurant, Winning and Won Turkey Legs, back on Oct. 10, and the murder remains unsolved.

On Thursday, his mother and other family members spoke, saying they believe someone knows who killed Wells.
“I asked God myself, Why? What for?” mother Mary Brown said. “My son was lovable. Who shot my son? It would be a great relief to me, people don’t know how I hurt because I want to know who is the murderer.”
Wells was with a friend and his girlfriend when he was shot outside his business on Northwest 17th Avenue.
Police said a suspect walked up towards him, shot him and then ran away. The motive for the shooting was unknown.
Wells, also known as “Screamer,” was a pillar in the community known as not only a business owner but activist who advocated for the community’s youth.
Surveillance images released by police show a possible suspect who police are trying to identify.
“Listen public. If I knew something I would tell something, especially if somebody took somebody’s son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, I would tell,” Brown said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
