Video shows security guard critically hurt in San Diego waterfront brawl
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A violent fight caught on camera at the San Diego waterfront left a security guard critically injured early Sunday morning, according to Harbor Police. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The brawl broke out shortly after midnight near the City Cruises dock on North Harbor Drive, close to Grape Street in downtown San Diego. Police say when officers arrived, they found a security guard unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse.
A bystander and two Harbor Police officers immediately began performing CPR before medics arrived.
“I saw a police officer doing CPR, so I went over and asked if I could help,” said Marie Aponte, a hospice nurse who had just stepped off a Halloween cruise nearby. “Between the three of us, we were able to do rounds of CPR and resuscitate him until medics arrived.”
Aponte said the man was not breathing at first, but the group was able to restore a pulse before he was rushed to the hospital. Harbor Police confirmed he was transported in critical but stable condition.
San Diego Police assisted with crowd control as a large number of people gathered along the waterfront.
“It was a violent act,” Aponte said. “I feel that if there’s somebody who can respond or help, it’s important that people come together and act quickly.”
Harbor Police confirmed that a man and a woman were arrested in connection with the fight and are facing felony charges.
Officials have not yet released the names of the suspects or the injured security guard. The cause of the altercation remains under investigation.
