Video shows armed carjacking suspect crashing stolen Corvette in Miami Gardens

Surveillance video captured the moment an armed, teenage carjacking suspect fleeing police crashed a stolen Corvette in Miami Gardens early Thursday, authorities said.

It started when Miami Police officers responded at around 1:20 a.m. to the area of Northwest 5th Avenue and 30th Street.

The two victims told police that they were approached by a male armed with a gun who took their vehicle, a newer model Corvette, authorities said.

Miami Police said the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office found the car and detained the suspect at Northwest 42nd Avenue and 183rd Street—but not before the Corvette came to a crashing stop.

Video from outside a Shell gas station shows police lights in the distance before the Corvette comes speeding down the roadway, running into a pole and striking an SUV parked in an accessible parking spot and finally coming to rest against a fence.

Almost a dozen law enforcement units arrive at the scene, and officers scramble.

Minutes later, authorities lead a handcuffed 16-year-old suspect away from the scene. NBC6 does not name minors accused of a crime unless they are charged as adults.

Miami police said no injuries were reported, and officers took custody of the subject after he was detained by the sheriff’s office.
