UB Bulls rally to beat UMass, 3-0 in MAC

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Ta'Quan Roberson threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Victor Snow with 19 seconds remaining in University at Buffalo's 28-21 victory on the road against UMass on Saturday, rallying the Bulls to a 3-0 record in Mid-American Conference football games.

Roberson was 36 of 55 passing for a career-best 406 yards, the most by any UB quarterback in eight seasons. Roberson tied all-time passing leader Joe Licata's record for completions in a game (on three fewer attempts) and became the fifth Bulls passer to surpass 400 yards in an FBS game, joining Zach Maynard ('09), Chazz Anderson ('11), Licata ('13, '14), Drew Anderson ('17 in 7OT) and Tyree Jackson ('17).

Snow had 112 yards on eight receptions and scored his seventh touchdown in seven games this season. The Rochester-area native also caught the winning TD in UB's 31-28 comeback last month at Kent State.

Buffalonian Nik McMillan caught 10 passes for 115 yards, including critical fourth-down grab on the winning drive and a two-point conversion.

Another former Canisius High School player put UMass ahead. Tight end Max Dowling's 77-yard TD reception made it 21-17 in the third quarter.

UMass (0-7) has lost 18 consecutive games against FBS opponents.

While UB (4-3) remains unbeaten in MAC games, each of those wins have required late comebacks against some of the lowest-rated teams in the conference.

"We're not playing good," coach Pete Lembo said on the postgame ESPN+ broadcast. "But we're not playing bad. We're finding ways to persevere in the end."

The Bulls return to UB Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday hosting Akron, another MAC foe with a losing record.
