Two men were killed and another was hospitalized following a triple shooting on New Year’s Day in Philadelphia, police said.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 7100 block of Oakland Street around 11:13 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
When officers arrived at the scene, one man was transported by officers to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 11:55 a.m. A second man was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle and was pronounced dead at 11:52 a.m.
A third man was also transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle, police shared. His condition is unknown at this time.
NBC10 was there as grieving family members of one of the men gathered behind the crime scene tape.
Neighbors describe the street as quiet and friendly, with most neighbors getting along.
Sylvaney Suza told NBC10 that his wife woke him when she heard the gunshots. They feared for the safety of their children.
Suza said he is left with some fear because the area has been a good place to live, but it now seems really dangerous.
Police said the investigation remains active and is being handled by the department’s Homicide Detectives Division.
