Toddler hurt after gun goes off inside West Philly home Thursday, police say

An investigation is underway after a toddler suffered from a gunshot wound to their foot on Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. inside a home on the 900 block of North 42nd Street in West Philadelphia on Jan. 1, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.

A young boy showed up to a hospital with his father suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot, Small said. The hospital alerted police who then went to the house where the shooting happened.

There, they found a semi-automatic handgun and a small amount of blood in a back bedroom of the house’s first-floor apartment, Small explained.

The toddler lives at the home with his father and his father’s girlfriend who were all at the house when the gun went off, according to Small.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital by his father and is currently listed in stable condition, Small said.

Investigators do not know yet know what led to the gun being fired, but do believe this was an accidental shooting, Small told NBC10.

SkyForce10 was over the scene around 5:30 p.m. where several police cars could be seen outside of rowhomes.
