Thousands gather downtown for ‘No Kings’ protest

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Another wave of protests, dubbed “No Kings Day,” are taking place Saturday, with events planned throughout San Diego County and across the nation. According to organizers, the demonstrations aim to challenge what participants view as authoritarian actions by the Trump administration.

The “No Kings” protests are part of a coordinated effort involving over 1,500 cities across all 50 states, as shown in a map pinpointing the planned events. The local demonstrations coincide with a planned live-fire military demonstration that's part of a celebration marking the Marine Corps’ 250th Anniversary, an event that will be attended by Vice President JD Vance.

When it comes to the key issues, participants are rallying against several policies and actions by the Trump administration, with immigration enforcement at the forefront. This comes amid continued Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids throughout the country.

Other issues that are being highlighted by protestors, according to organizers, include access to healthcare, environmental protections, education, election maps, and school shootings. "No Kings" demonstrations are also taking place amid a prolonged government shutdown that's impacting families nationwide.

In San Diego, the main “No Kings” event is taking place from 10 a.m. to noon at Waterfront Park, located at 1600 Pacific Highway. Crowds of thousands could be seen gathering downtown on Saturday morning, with organizers expecting a significant turnout. SkyFox flew over the event, capturing the the protestors marching downtown.

San Diego police said they will have officers monitoring the event to ensure it remains peaceful.

Also in San Diego County, “No Kings” protest are taking place in Chula Vista, El Cajon, the College Area of San Diego, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Carmel Valley, Rancho Bernardo, Ramona, San Marcos, Carlsbad, and Oceanside.

More than 60,000 people took part in the first “No Kings” protest in downtown San Diego earlier this year, one of many demonstrations nationwide on June 14 that organizers say drew millions of participants.
