Suspect arrested after man killed in Hialeah shooting, police say

Police arrested a suspect accused of fatally shooting a man in Hialeah on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Dairon Rosas Delgado.

Hialeah Police officials said they received calls at 6:18 a.m. from people who said they heard up to 10 shots in the area of West 19th Avenue and West 56th Street, near the entrance to an apartment complex.

Once they responded, officers found the body of the deceased. Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the body covered by a yellow tarp on a sidewalk.

Police are searching for a subject after a man was found dead in Hialeah on Wednesday, authorities said.

Cell phone video also showed SWAT members breaking into a third-floor apartment at the nearby building.

“Preliminary information that was being received at the time was that possibly the shooter was barricaded inside of an apartment, or perhaps he may have taken a hostage, that information was never confirmed,” Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez said. “What we do know is that the subject fled the scene after the shooting.”

As detectives continued to search for Delgado on Wednesday afternoon, they said they found and arrested him while he was driving in the area of West Fourth Avenue and West 18th Street in Hialeah.

Dick Estrada

The victim’s identity wasn’t released, but relatives identified him as Dick Estrada, a husband and father of two.

A woman who said Estrada was her cousin’s husband was on his way to work when he was shot.

“My cousin is a man who came here to work, to support his family,” said the woman, who wanted to be identified as Adelkis.

She said his wife realized something was wrong when his car was still parked out front — and he wasn’t answering his phone.

“I’m hurting because I care about my cousin. My cousin is like a sister,” she said.

A motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

“Right now we’re trying to investigate to see if these two were known to each other, possibly they may have been known to each other,” Rodriguez said.
