Suspect, 18, arrested after woman killed in shooting outside Little Havana store
An 18-year-old is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of a woman outside a convenience store in Little Havana, according to arrest reports.
Desiree Gonzalez died after the shooting in December at Habibi Mini Market on Southwest Third Street, Miami Police officials said.
In the surveillance footage, Gonzalez is seen in a red jacket and a black hat going inside the store. Moments later, an argument breaks out between people riding by on their bikes and two people outside the store.
The video then shows Gonzalez coming outside as gunshots are fired between the two groups.
“After the shooting the subjects fled westbound on their motorized bikes down Southwest 3rd Street towards Southwest 19th Avenue,” police said. “The two intended targets also fled the scene northbound on a bicycle Southwest 18th Avenue from Southwest 3rd Street.”
Gonzalez was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
In a heavily redacted arrest report, authorities said surveillance footage from the Habibi Mini Market showed the shooting subjects visiting it on multiple occasions. Police were able to identify one of the people involved and interviewed him, but redacted that conversation.
Later in the arrest report, police state that cellphone data places 18-year-old Jeferzon Noel Mendoza Herrera at the scene of the crime.

“The cellular device’s historical data was also corroborated based on surveillance footage, statements provided by co-defendants, and records for co-defendant’s devices,” the arrest report states.
Mendoza Herrera is charged with first-degree murder. The names of his co-defendants were not immediately available.
Mendoza Herrera is also accused of attempted murder in a separate incident on Jan. 22 at Northwest 2nd Avenue and 75th Street in Miami.
