String of burglaries reported in Abington, residents urged to secure homes

In Montgomery County, the Abington Township Police Department is investigating a series of burglary-related incidents.

In a news release, police shared that an attempted burglary happened on January 17, 2026, around 8 p.m., on the 900 block of Meetinghouse Road. The suspect or suspects attempted to gain entry to a home through a basement window and the rear door, but were unsuccessful.

Then, just a day later, on January 18, police said a home on the 700 block of Washington Lane was burglarized. Around 7:10 p.m., the suspect or suspects got into the home through a basement window and exited through a rear door. Police said several valuable items were taken.

Investigators believe that both incidents are related, as they occurred around the same time at night and both were in the Rydal section of the township.

It is possible that both crimes were committed by the same individual or individuals, according to investigators.

Residents in the area are now being warned to remain vigilant and secure their homes.

Police said it’s best to keep your home well-lit, set your alarms and use security cameras. Burglars often target primary bedrooms; it’s best to store valuables elsewhere in the home.

If you see any suspicious activity, you are urged to call 911.
