Stateside Live! opens expanded entertainment complex in South Philly

Stateside Live! has completed a $20 million expansion of its outdoor entertainment complex in Philadelphia’s stadium district, adding new concert and event spaces ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Crews spent months working on the project before putting the finishing touches on the expanded venue Friday.

The opening party was sold out, with organizers expecting thousands of people to visit the new space.

The timing of the project was intentional.

Stateside Live! wanted the expansion completed before the start of the FIFA World Cup with Philadelphia’s matches set to be played across the street at Lincoln Financial Field.

The venue plans to offer game-day experience packages for fans with match tickets and watch parties on non-match days. However, operators say the expanded complex is designed to be used for much more than sports.

The upgraded venue now includes multiple stages capable of hosting concerts throughout the year. Its main stage can accommodate about 5,000 people and the space will also be available to rent for private events.

Operators say they are planning a variety of programming for days when games are not being played.

The expansion is one of several major projects underway in South Philadelphia.

Gov. Josh Shapiro on Thursday announced a $30 million plan aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety around the sports complex.

“After a whole lot of years of this not being right now’s the time to fix it,” Shapiro said.

The announcement follows Comcast Spectacor’s unveiling of a 10-year, $2.5 billion redevelopment plan for the area in 2024.

Stateside Live! is part of that broader effort, though officials say additional changes are still planned for the district.
