San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance announces new president and CEO
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- After conducting an extensive global search, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) has selected its new president and chief executive officer.
Shawn Dixon, who has served as interim president and CEO for the past seven months, has been named the organization's new leader.
According to SDZWA, Dixon has been a long-time advocate for wildlife conservation and a proud San Diegan who brings a wealth of experience to the role.
"His leadership has been instrumental in connecting the organization’s global conservation efforts with the guest experience at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which welcome 5.5 million visitors annually," the organization said in a statement.
While serving as interim CEO, Dixon oversaw several projects at both the zoo and safari park, including the largest project in SDZWA's history, Denny Sanford Elephant Valley, which is expected to open early next year.
Aside from his work with SDZWA, Dixon serves on several other boards and committees, including the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Committee and the San Diego Tourism Authority.
“Shawn’s deep roots in the San Diego community, combined with his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to our mission, made him the clear choice to lead San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance,” said Steve Simpson, chair of SDZWA's board of trustees.
Dixon said he is "deeply honored" to continue building on the organization's legacy of conservation.
“San Diego is not just where we’re headquartered—it’s where we live, and it’s a community that has embraced our mission to protect wildlife and inspire action. Together, we can create a brighter future for all life on Earth," he said.
