San Diego weather: More May gray for Wednesday

A persistent, and deeper marine layer has made for a mostly cloudy day for most of the county.

We’ve seen a very quick shift in our weather pattern. The high pressure that squashed the marine layer earlier this week, and brought much warmer temperatures, has now been replaced by a passing low pressure system. That low has the opposite effect on the marine layer, allowing it to deepen and make it much tougher to clear.

As a result, high temperatures are noticeably cooler, especially inland where some areas are as much as 25 degrees cooler today than yesterday.

Wednesday looks very much the same with similar temperatures. The deeper marine layer will spread pretty far inland, and bring some overnight fog, and even a slight chance for some light drizzle.

Thursday will see more sun, and slightly warmer temperatures. We’ll see very little change the rest of the week. Temperatures will warm a little for the end of the work week, and then cool a little for the weekend as another low pressure system moves through the region.

WEDNESDAY

  • Coast: mostly cloudy – upper 60s
  • Valleys: mostly to partly cloudy – low 70s
  • Mountains: sunny – highs around 70
  • Deserts: sunny – mid to upper 90s
