San Diegans have mixed reactions to developments in Iran

While some are celebrating the Trump Administration’s action against the Islamic Regime, others are condemning the move.

Some protesters hit the streets across the U.S. to push back on what they claim is the latest war sparked by the Trump administration.

“Iran is Free…Iran is Free,” Mitra Khodabakhshi said.

With Iranian flags, music, and dancing…hundreds of people celebrated on the Streets of Clairemont Mesa Saturday after learning Iran’s Supreme Leader had been killed in a major attack by U.S. and Israel.

“My heart is beating so hard…and I am so happy, so happy,” Cameron Malek said.

“It was a feeling of euphoria knowing that my people are free, knowing that a dictator that has ruled Iran with iron fists for well over 37 years, has been killed, has been pushed out of the power and we can have a democratic Iran,” Bobby Shah said.

Many said they are hoping this marks the beginning of a long-awaited regime change.

“Our true enemy was the Islamic Republic, they were killing our youth, they were giving our money to the terrorists, and they were supporting terrorism, and they didn’t care about the well-being of their own citizens,” Shah said.

Over in downtown, a much different story.

“No war on anyone,” one speaker said as she addressed the crowd.

Protestors called on the U.S. to stop airstrikes on Iran.

“We’re here to call on the end of endless wars. We need to disrupt imperialism and concern ourselves with citizens in this country,” Marze Prado said.

Others worry it could lead to more military involvement by the U.S. in the Middle East.

They also worry the bombings could set off a bigger conflict in the region.

“I think it’s important to stand together collectively as people in struggle and also as U.S. citizens demanding that we don’t want to go to war,” Subrein Damanhoury said.

Both protestors and supporters of the strikes now waiting to see what comes next with the leadership vacuum in Iran.

The San Diego Police Department also released a statement today in regard to the recent military operation in Iran.

They said at this time, there are no known credible threats to San Diego, but they will continue to monitor.
