Remains found in Pennsylvania in 2024 identified as Olean woman
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Human remains found near Erie, Pa. were identified as that of an Olean woman who went missing in 2024, the Millcreek Township Police Department announced Thursday.
Police responded on Oct. 24, 2024 after human remains were discovered in Walnut Creek near the Millcreek Mall. No signs of trauma or natural disease were uncovered during an autopsy.
Phone interviews were conducted between investigators and people residing in Cattaraugus County, as well as McKean and Potter Counties in Pennsylvania, before DNA samples were given by potential relatives.
The investigation determined that the remains were that of Rebecca L. (Foley) Hakes, of Olean, who was reported missing by her family in late 2024.
She was 51-years-old when she died.
