More testimony continued on Wednesday in the trial of George Pino, a South Florida developer who was charged in the death of a 17-year-old girl after a boat crashed off Boca Chita Key in 2022.
Pino’s wife, Cecilia, took the stand as said Lucy Fernandez’s death was an accident.
Jurors were also shown video of Fernandez being treated by rescue crews.
On Tuesday, Fernandez’s father took the stand and described the horrific moment when he was told that his daughter was involved in a boat crash shortly after she had hugged her goodbye.
Authorities say Pino was at the helm of the 29-foot vessel with 14 people on board when he crashed into a channel marker near Boca Chita Key on Sept. 4, 2022. The boat capsized and all the passengers, including several teens, were thrown into the water.
Fernandez, a senior at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami, died from drowning from the injuries she sustained in the crash. Katerina Puig, another passenger who was 18 at the time, was left permanently disabled.
Pino faces second-degree manslaughter and vessel homicide charges in the crash. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
