Quick-thinking New Jersey officers help free school bus stuck in snow

When a school bus with students onboard became stranded in New Jersey’s deep snow, several officers sprang into action to help.

The Washington Township Police Department posted on social media that just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a driver reported a school bus stuck in snow and ice on Pitman Downer Road with children still inside.

Several officers arrived right away and worked together to free the bus. One officer even shoveled behind the bus to help it gain traction.

After the bus was freed, the driver continued the route and brought the children to school safely.

“This is what Community Caretaking looks like,” police wrote.

The department also said that during the recent snowstorm, officers have been busy helping drivers dig out their cars and clear snow from driveways.
