Procession held for fallen La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A law enforcement procession is being held Thursday to honor La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven, who was tragically killed earlier this week while rendering aid at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 8.
The procession began around 10 a.m. at the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and made its to El Camino Memorial Park on Carroll Canyon Road in Sorrento Valley.
Officer Craven, who is survived by her partner and her parents, joined the La Mesa Police Department in 2024 and is remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer with a passion for helping others.
California Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following a statement Tuesday honoring the fallen officer:
"Officer Craven served her community with pride and dedication. Jennifer and I are heartbroken by her loss and the significant impact her passing leaves on the larger San Diego community,” Newsom stated. “We join her family, friends, and fellow officers in mourning. May her memory never be forgotten.”
Flags at the State Capitol and the Capitol Annex Swing Space in Sacramento will be flown at half-staff as a tribute to her service and sacrifice, the Governor's Office announced.
Law enforcement agencies from across the county are expected to participate in Thursday’s procession to pay their respects and honor her service.
