Portion of northbound I-5 closed from Oct. 24-27. Here are alternate routes

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Crews with the California Department of Transportation will close parts of northbound Interstate 5 this weekend until early Monday morning.

Starting Friday, Oct. 24, all northbound lanes of I-5 between Interstate 8 and the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp will be closed for crews to conduct roadwork and replace concrete slabs, Caltrans said.

The lanes are scheduled to reopen around 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27.

During the closure, drivers are advised to take alternate routes such as State Route 163, State Route 15 and Interstate 805 to connect with northbound I-5. See the map below.

The Moore Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 in Old Town will be closed, as well as the westbound I-8 Taylor Street on-ramp and Morena Boulevard off-ramp.

On-ramps at Camino Del Rio West and Sea World Drive/Tecolote Road, as well as Clairemont Drive, will also be closed.

All northbound Metropolitan Transit Service bus routes to La Jolla and University Town Center (UTC) will operate normally. Bus Route 30 will use a slight detour from Old Town to La Jolla, while Route 105 from Old Town to UTC will not be impacted, according to Caltrans.

This is the third of several freeway closures as part of the I-5 Asset Management Project, which is meant to improve existing infrastructure and safety along the freeway.
