Police seek suspects in deadly shooting near Ocean Beach Pier in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning near the Ocean Beach Pier, prompting a large police response and an ongoing homicide investigation.
According to San Diego Police, the shooting happened just after midnight near the shoreline. When officers arrived, they found a man in his 30s suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
Police say the victim is a Hispanic man in his 30s. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
Investigators believe the shooting involved a group of at least four people, two men and two women, all Hispanic and between 25 and 30 years old, who had been hanging out in the pier parking lot before walking south toward the beach.
Rick Neil, a longtime Ocean Beach resident, says he woke up to the sound of commotion and flashing lights.
“They were checking adjacent parking lots, they were going up and down these alleys,” Neil said. “We had a homicide right in the condo next door to me not too long ago in the parking lot over here next to the bars on Newport [Avenue]. I’m disappointed that we still have this kind of activity.”
Detectives are now reviewing nearby security video and following up on reports that one of the suspect vehicles may have hit another car while leaving the area.
Police have not released any suspect descriptions beyond gender, age range and ethnicity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Diego Police Homicide Unit or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
