Police investigating after man found shot to death in Coral Springs neighborhood
An investigation was underway after a man was found shot to death in a Coral Springs neighborhood early Thursday, prompting a SWAT response.
The incident happened at an apartment complex along the 2500 block of Riverside Drive, near Royal Palm Boulevard and south of West Sample Road.
Coral Springs Police officials said officers responded to a shooting call shortly before 3 a.m. and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The man, whose identity wasn’t released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video showed a large law enforcement response in the neighborhood with officers and the SWAT team at the scene.
What appeared to be a body was covered in the parking lot of the Coral Park East Townhome community.
Some neighbors said they heard the gunfire in what they described as a quiet, family-friendly community.
“I thought it was maybe a tire explosion,” one neighbor said.
“I heard the gunshots but I thought it was lightning so I didn’t come outside to check probably until 7:30. They said somebody got shot and it was a SWAT standoff,” another neighbor said. “This is a pretty good neighborhood, good to raise your kids, and to wake up to see something like this is very unfortunate.”
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed what appeared to be a gun in a nearby swimming pool.

In a Facebook post, police said nearby Somerset Academy Riverside would be closed for the day.
Police said the homicide investigation was active but there were no threats to public safety.
