Police ID child who was caught on camera killing duck in Fort Lauderdale

Police in Fort Lauderdale said they’ve identified a child who was caught on camera brutally killing a duck last month.

Video released by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department showed the incident that happened back on Jan. 18 in the 300 block of Southwest 8th Avenue.

The video shows two young children running outside when one of them chases a duck, grabs it, then proceeds to repeatedly stomp on it, ultimately killing it.

Police called it a case of aggravated animal abuse and asked for the public’s assistance to find the child but on Thursday said the child and their parent were identified.

“The Fort Lauderdale Police Department would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our community for their assistance,” the department said in a statement. “Information received from the public via social media helped identify these at-risk juveniles, allowing us to provide intervention along with our partners at the Department of Children and Families.”

Police gave no other details but said the investigation was still active.
