Philadelphia schools will return to in-person classes on Thursday

Philadelphia public schools will return to in-person classes on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, for the first time since Sunday’s winter storm.

In-person after-school activities and athletic events will return on Thursday as well, the district said.

However, district officials are warning parents and guardians that yellow buses may be delayed due to the road conditions, and SEPTA may experience delays or interruptions as well.

“Students who arrive late due to weather-related challenges will not be marked late, or will be excused if absent, upon receipt of a note from a parent or guardian,” the district said. “Staff who arrive late will be marked with an excused lateness.”

Wednesday was the third day in a row that Philadelphia schools were closed and the second day in a row of virtual learning after the city saw the highest amount of snow in a decade on Sunday.
