Pedestrian killed, 2 hurt after they're hit by truck near Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise

A pedestrian was killed and two others were injured after they were struck by a vehicle at an intersection near the Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise on Wednesday, police said.

The incident happened shortly before 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of W. Sunrise Boulevard and Yellow Toucan Road east of Northwest 136th Avenue.

Surveillance video showed a group of people crossing the roadway when some are struck by what appears to be a pickup truck.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a body covered by a tarp in the roadway next to a truck. Officers were at the scene and had the area closed off by yellow police tape.

Sunrise Police said one of the three pedestrians who was struck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two pedestrians were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions weren’t released.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
