Party City stores reopen – in another popular retailer — including 10 in San Diego

Beloved party supply and balloon store Party City is making a comeback in a new way after announcing it would close hundreds of stores across the country, including 10 in San Diego County.

The popular store, known for its wide selection of party and holiday supplies, has reopened inside hundreds of Staples locations in the U.S., according to a news release.

According to the release, Party City at Staples has already opened within more than 700 Staples nationwide, with plans to expand to additional stores by the end of 2026, the release said.

The San Diego locations are at:

Carlsbad:

  • 2712 Loker Ave. West

El Cajon:

  • 2879 Jamacha Road

Escondido:

  • 1358 West Valley Parkway

Oceanside:

  • 2180 B Vista Way, Unit B

San Diego:

  • 1880 Camino de la Reina Park
  • San Diego: 1650 Garnet Ave.
  • 4240 Kearny Mesa Road, Suite 120
  • 11160 Rancho Carmel Drive
  • 3146B Sports Arena Blvd.

Vista:

  • 235 Vista Village Drive

The partnership creates a “single destination” for a wide range of occasions, randing from birthday parties to grand openings, the release said, allowing customers to shop for party supplies while creating personalized invitations, yard signs, banners and posters.

“By bringing Party City into Staples stores, we’re expanding what customers can accomplish in one place,” Marshall Warkentin, Staples president of U.S. retail said in the release. “Combining helium balloons and party supplies with our print and marketing services to offer a complete solution for celebrations, from graduations to grand openings and everything in between.”

Last year, the brand’s new owner announced the company would be “reimagined” with new retail locations and a website following a $20 million bankruptcy.

At the time, a banner on Party City’s website said “A whole new Party City is coming soon.”

The well-known 40-year-old party store, which once operated close to 1,000 stores across the country, shuttered hundreds of locations in 2025.
