Part of Morena Boulevard to reopen after water main break caused sinkhole
Part of Morena Boulevard is expected to reopen Tuesday evening after a water main break caused a sinkhole at a major intersection last week, the city of San Diego said.
The days-long road closure began Thursday when a sinkhole opened up following a water main break at Morena Boulevard and Napa Street, according to the city.
Two southbound lanes of Morena Boulevard and the northbound lane between Linda Vista Road and Cushman Avenue were set to reopen around 6 p.m. Tuesday, a city spokesperson said. Sherman Street was expected to reopen on Wednesday evening.
City crews completed repairs to the 8-inch pipe that broke by Friday evening but were waiting for SDG&E and AT&T crews to finish working on their lines in the area before refilling the trench and putting the main back in service. City crews were also making repairs on a 10-inch pipe that was damaged in the break.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area until all repairs are finished.
