Pa. man sentenced to state prison after using AI to make nude photos of children

A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to over two years in state prison after taking innocent pictures of children and using artificial intelligence to have the children appear naked, according to officials.

Adam Erdman, 35, was charged with possession of child sexual materials and criminal use of a communication facility on April 17, 2025, after computer generated images of child pornography were discovered at his home by his estranged wife.

Erdman’s estranged wife told police that she was reading emails on his computer when she found an email titled “still images,” that contained three AI-generated nude images of underage girls.

Investigators had said that Erdman found innocent photos of two children on vacation and then used an artificial intelligence photo-editing software to make the children appear naked.

Erdman then saved the images he created onto his laptop.

Erdman pleaded guilty in September and was sentenced on Monday, Dec. 15 to 28 months to 10 years in state prison and will be eligible for parole after 28 months.

If he is paroled, he will be on supervision for a maximum of 10 years.

Erdman will need to register as a sex offender for 15 years after he serves his time in jail.

Officials announced that Erdman is the first person to be convicted and sentenced under a new statute that bans artificially generated sex abuse materials of children.
