Officer shoots woman armed with knife at former Allentown hospital, police say
A woman has been hospitalized after being shot by police in Allentown, officials said, after she was allegedly found brandishing a knife and threatening first responders in an incident that happened at a former medical facility in Allentown on Sunday.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident happened on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, at the former Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, located along the 800 block of South Fifth Street in Allentown.
At that time, police say, officers responded to a call concerning a woman who, “appeared to be in distress.”
Upon arrival, officers found a woman — who police did not immediately provide additional identifying details on — who was allegedly brandishing a knife and made threats at first responders.
At some point during this incident, officials said, one of the officers from the Allentown Police Department shot the woman one time.
Officials said Monday that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though they did not detail the extent of her injuries.
In a statement online, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation noted that the incident at the former rehabilitation hospital did not involve any patients, residents or faculty.
Police said this was an isolated incident and they don’t believe there is any danger to the community.
An investigation into the incident, officials said, is ongoing.
