October storm brings rain, strong winds to the San Diego area

(FOX 5/KUSI) — A major storm is hitting California, but if you were outside in the San Diego area on Tuesday morning, it would look like another sunny fall day.

The storm began impacting the Bay Area, Central Coast, Central Valley and Los Angeles area on Monday night and continued into Tuesday morning.

While some parts of the San Diego area could get rain, one of the biggest impacts the area can expect is stronger winds, with a wind advisory issued between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Parts of the mountains and the deserts could see wind gusts as strong as 40 mph.

The low-pressure system will move into Southern California throughout Tuesday, with most of the rain happening through the afternoon and a chance of showers in the night, according to the National Weather Service forecasters.

Additional bands of rain could pass over the San Diego area on Wednesday. Rain totals by Thursday could reach around .70 inches in coastal northern San Diego County.

Skies are expected to clear up in the county by the weekend, with more possible rain in the first days of next week.

Temperatures are in the high 60s and low 70s along the coast this week, with desert temperatures about 10-15 degrees higher and mountain temperatures hovering between the low and high 70s.
