New voucher program offers incentive to stop illegal dumping in Philadelphia

The city of Philadelphia is going after people illegally dumping trash in a new way.
Instead of just handing out hefty fines or impounding the cars of those who drop trash in neighborhoods, some organizations are now handing out vouchers to get rid of garbage legally.
It’s a new initiative focused on certain neighborhood hotspots in Philly.
According to city leaders, Hunting Park and East Tioga are two of the neighborhoods that are breeding grounds for illegal dumping.
An agency dealing with quality of life in those areas, North 10, is now offering these vouchers to take your trash.
Ambassadors and signs will be at hot spot locations directing potential law breakers to get a voucher instead.
The vouchers can be redeemed at Burns Company recycling facility on Rising Sun Avenue.
The vouchers are for $120 and should cover about 90% of the costs.
Crews will be handing out 10 vouchers each week.
