New ferry route connects South Bay to San Diego for first time
South Bay residents can now cruise up the bay between Chula Vista and Downtown San Diego, thanks to a new ferry service from Flagship Cruises & Events launching Monday.
One-way fares will be $15 per passenger. Service begins a daily schedule Monday with an 8 a.m. departure from Chula Vista’s waterfront at 600 Marina Parkway. Each crossing will take around 45 minutes, with departures from alternating terminals scheduled at the top of the hour.

The final departure of the day will leave Fifth Avenue Landing at 7:00 p.m.
“We are very excited about extending ferry service to this area of the South Bay,” said Brad Engel, president of Flagship Cruises & Events. “This new route creates another unique and enjoyable way to experience San Diego Bay while improving connectivity between Chula Vista and Downtown San Diego. We look forward to growing the service and adding additional trips to the schedule in the future.”
Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, Engel and Port of San Diego Chair Ann Moore spoke at a brief ceremony before the first departure.
