Mom wants answers after video shows BSO deputy kicking son during arrest

A mother said she wants justice after video showed her son being kicked multiple times by a Broward Sheriff’s deputy as he was being detained.

The rough arrest happened Tuesday afternoon while deputies were responding to a shooting in Pompano Beach.

“I was disgusted, I could barely see it,” the mother, who didn’t want to be identified, said of the video. “As a mother, it was like, ‘who would want to see that?'”

Her son, 22-year-old Jeremyah Taylor, was seen on the ground in the video being detained by several BSO deputies when one of the deputies started kicking and stomping him over and over again.

“This is wrong. It’s not right. I want justice,” the mother said. “I want answers. I want that deputy to be held accountable.”

BSO officials said deputies were investigating a shooting in the 900 block of Northwest 8th Avenue.

The video starts as Taylor arrived at the scene and then he’s heard getting into some type of argument with the deputies, who then start to restrain him against a car.

Other deputies rush over and wrestle Taylor to the ground, and one of the deputies with a long gun walks over as Taylor is on the ground and kicks him, then stops and then continues to kick him a total of five times.

“Repeatedly. Not once, not twice but five times. That’s disgusting,” the mother said.

Officials said Taylor was shouting and ignoring deputies’ commands to back away from the scene, and said he resisted officers when they tried to detain him and allegedly grabbed one of the deputies by the foot.

The mother said Taylor was at the scene looking for his uncle, who investigators said was later arrested in connection with the shooting.

BSO released a statement in response to the video.

“In accordance with BSO policy, an initial administrative review is being conducted by the Internal Affairs Unit. This case will subsequently be examined by the Use of Force Review Board,” the statement read.

Taylor appeared before a Broward judge after he was charged with battery on an officer and resisting an officer.

He bonded out of jail on Thursday and his mother said he went to a local hospital.

She said she’s focused on trying to help her son heal from injuries she said he got from being kicked.

“He’s complaining about headaches. He has a bruise on the left side of his face. He has scratches on his arm. You can see the bruise marks on his back,” she said. “I want answers. I want that deputy to be held accountable.”
