Miami inmate who got pregnant in jail on trial for allegedly killing her husband

A Miami-Dade woman who once made national headlines for becoming pregnant while behind bars is back in court — this time facing a jury for the crime that first landed her in jail.
Daisy Link, 30, broke down in tears Monday as she and jurors watched body-camera video showing the moments after she shot her husband, Pedro Jimenez, in the leg — a wound that proved fatal.
“Is he OK? Is there a pulse?” Link is heard crying in the bodycam video.
Link told police she found Jimenez bleeding in an alleyway and tried to help him. But prosecutors say she was pretending not to know what happened.
Video evidence obtained by NBC6 allegedly shows Link walking away from the scene after the shooting, telling Jimenez, “I think I hit a major artery, you’ll be fine.”
Prosecutors say Link fired out of “rage” while Jimenez was running away in fear for his life.
Link admits to firing the shot but insists she acted in self-defense, claiming years of abuse.
Her defense attorney, Antonio Tomas, told jurors Link tried repeatedly to leave the relationship.
“She did everything she could to get away from this man,” Tomas said. “The evidence will show he was out of control, unhinged, and dangerous.”
Five days before the shooting, Link says her husband pistol-whipped her during a violent argument.
Jurors will now have to decide whether Link acted to protect herself or committed murder.
Jurors will not get to learn that she claimed she became pregnant while in custody. Link claimed another inmate passed semen to her through an air-conditioning vent using a glove. The bizarre claim sparked a major internal investigation at the Miami-Dade County Jail.
Officials have declined to comment on the results of that investigation.
NBC6 has learned the baby is with family.
The murder trial continues Thursday.
