Miami dad arrested after young sons found unresponsive, tested positive for cocaine

A Miami father was arrested after his two young sons who were found unresponsive tested positive for cocaine, authorities said.

Jose A. Aguilar Hernandez, 56, was arrested Wednesday on two counts of child neglect with no great bodily harm.

According to an arrest report his two sons, ages 9 and 11, were found “in an unresponsive state” on Tuesday.

A Florida Department of Children and Families investigator responded on Wednesday and performed a drug test on the children, who both tested positive for cocaine, the report said.

It’s unknown how they ingested the drug but they did so while under the care of their father, the only adult in the home at the time, authorities said.

“The defendant willfully failed to provide the necessary care and protection or to make reasonable efforts to protect the victims from harm,” the report said.

Aguilar Hernandez refused to speak with detectives, the report said, before he was arrested and booked into jail.

He appeared before a judge on Thursday who granted him a $5,000 bond but ordered him to stay away from his sons.
