Man taken into custody after barricading inside Miramar home: Police
A man armed with a knife was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a Miramar home on Friday, officials said.
Miramar Police officers responded to the 7500 block of Juniper Street and were out there for hours, trying to get the man to come out.
Officers and a SWAT armored truck were at the scene.
Styvens Jean, 27, was later taken into custody, officials said. He faces charges of aggravated assault and simple battery.
It’s unclear what led up to the incident.
Neighbors watched and waited Friday night as police tried to get a man to come out of a home.
Rochaya Reid, who lives down the street, said she came home and saw police and SWAT officers everywhere.
“I called my mom immediately and said I don’t know what’s going on, but stay inside, stay safe ,because there’s a lot of police officers outside,” Reid said. “It’s a scary situation not knowing.”
Reid has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. She said it’s normally quiet, so to see police everywhere was shocking.
After hours of not knowing, she and many of her neighbors just wanted to see a peaceful outcome.
“To come home from college and to see all these police cars, it was like wow, because for years we’ve been having a really good streak, and I just hope everything is OK because it’s like wow,” Reid said. “Anything can happen. I watch a lot of Criminal Minds, so my mind is wandering on like all the possible opportunities that could be happening inside, but I hope everything turns out good and OK.”
